About SVMC

A Unique, Community-Based Project

This project is both centered around and more than the open-access edited volume, Sexual Violence in Muslim Communities: Towards Awareness and Accountability, that gave it its name.

The volume with its 24 chapters, written by 30 contributors, with a foreword by Dr. Kecia Ali, and an introduction by the editors, Dr. Samah Choudhury and Dr. Juliane Hammer, is at the heart of a project to build a community of researchers, advocates, and service providers whose work connects to the goal of addressing (and eradicating) sexual violence. We focus on Muslim communities who are religious minorities in their respective countries and consider how the politics of anti-Muslim hostility and racism significantly shape awareness efforts, service provision, and efforts to hold perpetrators of such violence accountable.
